The aim of the Creating Chances project is to help people in our community work towards achieving their career aspirations. At Hull FC we strive to aid our learners by running a number of projects where they have access to qualifications, experience and development sessions.
As part of this project with have been working with The Bridges which is a rehab centre in Hull for people who are battling addiction. We started working with The Bridges in January 2020 and have contributed to their resident’s recovery by delivering qualifications aimed at developing employment skills, creating opportunity for further progression specific to their career goals, we also run sports and fitness sessions with the aim of developing team building, communication skills and contribute positively to their physical and mental health.
Recently two learners have graduated and finished their recovery program and as part of their ongoing development and our Create Program have enrolled on a Counselling Skills Qualification with The Learning Curve. This is their first step into gaining qualifications and training specific to achieving their potential.
Both Darren and James have aims of becoming Counsellors and have aims of working in the rehabilitation of others in the future.
James has taken on a Peer Mentoring role within the organisation where he continues to help others through The Bridges very successful 12 step program and Darren now works closely with Narcotics Anonymous and aims to become a sponsor for others starting their journey to recovery.
Darren and James our now both graduates of our Create Programme and have used the skills and knowledge learned whilst on the programme to further develop and are both well on their way to succeeding their personal and career aspirations.
