The Hull FC Community Foundation has received almost £5,000 in funding to run a new project called ‘Energy Champions’, aiming to make people more aware of the carbon footprint they leave.
Supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, here at the Hull FC Community Foundation, we are prepared to do our bit to support and raise awareness of current climate issues across the globe.
‘Energy Champions’ will empower people living in the fourth most deprived area of England to be more aware of their energy environmental impact, become more energy efficient, and lower their carbon footprint.
The new project will also be supported by Hull City Council, Citizens Advice Hull and Hessle Road Network.
‘Energy Champions’ workshops will be delivered weekly within youth networks, community sport clubs, and out of school hours clubs.
With a target of engaging 250 children over the funded period, the ninety-minute workshops will support knowledge and confidence about energy matters, empowering them to take messages home to their parents and influence change.
To fully engage with the children, the Community Foundation will use first-team players and the club mascot, Airlie Bird, to deliver messages in a fun, engaging way.
Each participant will receive a signed Hull FC poster which includes broader information on carbon reduction activity on the reverse.
In addition, ‘Energy Champions’ ambassadors will be present within the MKM Stadium Family Zone on Hull FC match days throughout the 2022 season to engage families in conversations about energy consumption and provide support and advice on changes that can be made.
