Petrie Thankful For Sports College Experience

As the 2021/22 academic year draws to a close, hullfcfoundation.co.uk caught up with Harrison Petrie, who is moving onto Higher Education at the University of Hull.

Students at Hull FC’s Sports College at the Centre of Excellence have now received their results from the courses they have been studying this year.

Harrison was with Hull FC’s Academy last season, but he was too old to play in the Academy Championship this season as the age restriction was capped at Under 18s ahead of the 2022 campaign.

Instead, he has been playing under Michael Shenton for the Black & Whites’ Reserves on weekends, coupling his playing with his studies at the Centre of Excellence through the week.

Harrison has been studying a Level 3 Diploma in Sport with the Sports College. Now he has the grades he needs to head to the University of Hull to study Sports Performance & Coaching Science.

Speaking to hullfcfoundation.co.uk about his course, Harrison said: “Being at the Sports College has helped me develop my understanding of the physical aspects of playing sport, so it’s helped me get better on the field when I’m playing.

“I think it’s also put me in a better place in the gym. Before I studied the course, I didn’t really appreciate how detailed a gym routine was, but I’ve learned some pretty important things.

“I’m really excited to be going to university so I can learn even more about elite sports performance, and I don’t think there is a much better place for me to do that now that it is going to be a main facility for Hull FC in a few months.

“Being at the Sports College has shown me the importance of being in a routine and how that can help me mentally. I think being in a routine helps teach you to have a little bit of discipline as well, which is key for any rugby league player to have.

“Hopefully I can continue playing rugby league as a bit of an extra-curricular activity at the University of Hull. They have a really solid team having just won the cup, so I’m looking forward to getting involved with that team there.”
