Headteacher Praises Foundation’s Impact Through School Sports Partnership

A local headteacher has praised the Hull FC Community Foundation’s School Sports partnership for its impact on schoolchildren.

Rachel Knight, who is the headteacher at Rawcliffe Primary School, has watched her pupils’ confidence blossom over the last couple of years, with the Community Foundation heading into the school to deliver sports-themed sessions.

In the 2021/22 academic year, Rawcliffe Primary School was just one of over 30 schools signed up to the Community Foundation’s School Sports Partnership Programme, which engaged over 10,000 schoolchildren throughout the year.

Rawcliffe Primary are once again signed on to receive a host of sessions delivered by qualified Hull FC Community Foundation staff throughout the 2022/23 academic year.

Headteacher at Rawcliffe Primary School, Rachel Knight, said: “Hull FC have been, without question, fundamental in developing our children’s love of sport.

“The Hull FC Community Foundation coaches have worked with every year group from Foundation 1 to Year 6 and have built strong relationships with our whole school community.

The impact on children’s confidence and resilience has been tremendous and the progress made within lessons has been outstanding.

The vast increase in the number of children participating in extracurricular sport is testament to this. Our children look forward to Fridays every week!”

Sam French, Head of Children & Young People at the Hull FC Community Foundation added: “It is fantastic to be continuing this great relationship we have with everyone involved at Rawcliffe Primary School.

“The partnership has allowed us to work closely with both the pupils and the staff within the schools, to help enhance and develop their knowledge of sport.

“The access to extracurricular clubs has now displayed a very big increase in participation at not only the curricular based sessions, but pupils are now getting involved for the first time in clubs outside of the school setting.”

In total, the Hull FC Community Foundation delivered over 6000 hours of sports and learning throughout the 2021/22 academic year – that equates to 250 whole days!
