Youngsters Feeling Inspired Through School Sports Partnership

More young primary school pupils are now playing sport in their own time, according to one teacher at one of the Community Foundation’s Partner Schools.

Dieter Pritchard, one of the teachers at Skidby Primary School, believes that such is the quality of their School Sports Partnership with the Hull FC Community Foundation, more youngsters have been taking up sport and physical activity in their own time.

The partnership sees Community Foundation coaches head into local primary schools to deliver exciting, engaging and entertaining sports sessions, alongside each school’s long term PE and curriculum planning.

Not only do children benefit from the partnership, but teachers also receive expert training to improve the way they deliver sports activity lessons.

Speaking to hullfcfoundation.co.uk about the benefits of the partnership, Mr Pritchard said: “We choose Hull FC for many reasons. As well as the high-quality lessons that are provided, the added bonuses are certainly something that the children enjoy,” he said.

“There are a lot of students who aren’t necessarily into regular sports, so the football and rugby just gives them an alternative avenue to ignite their passion.

“We now have an increased number of children playing sport as a result of the partnership with the Hull FC Community Foundation. We know that because a number of children have approached us for advice on which rugby team to join in their local community.

“As for the teachers, their confidence has grown in teaching, as well as supply staff, who feel more confident in delivering higher-quality sessions.”

In addition to the delivery of sessions in local primary schools, Partner Schools also get the opportunity to take part in Magic Moments on Hull FC match days at the MKM Stadium.

Magic Moments provides an exclusive, behind-the-scenes experience with the Black & Whites, with participants having the chance to meet the players and stand on the pitch as the teams prepare to enter the field.

Inspiring the next generation of Hull FC fanatics, Mr Pritchard explained how much everybody at Skidby Primary School looks forward to taking part in Magic Moments.

“I definitely have to say that the Magic Moments is an absolute staple in our calendar now,” he said.

“It’s something the children, the parents and the staff all look forward to each year.

“Being able to enjoy it all and be on the pitch – it allows them to take the whole experience in.”
