Employability Programme “Building Confidence” For Aspiring Sports Coach

The Hull FC Community Foundation’s Step Into Employment programme continues to make inroads, with one learner describing how much their confidence has grown since taking up the course.

Last week, hullfcfoundation.co.uk reported that Step Into Employment has helped 24 learners progress onto further education courses, whilst 14 learners have progressed onto a Level 2 course, and 10 more have moved into a volunteering role.

Ryan, who is one of the learners on the Community Foundation’s Step Into Employment programme, is hoping to gain the qualifications required to pursue a role as a sports coach.

He told hullfcfoundation.co.uk about how much his confidence has grown as a result of studying on the course.

“One of the things that I have found is that being on the course allows your confidence and self-esteem to grow,” he said.

“The Hull FC Community Foundation staff are the kindest people I’ve ever met. Whenever you’re struggling, they will go out there way to help you in any way possible.

“Currently, I’m doing another Level 2 course and I’m also signed up to do some volunteering with Hull FC Community Foundation.

“I’ve learned so many skills while being on all of the courses. Like I say, that has helped me build my confidence. It’s also helped me gain a better understanding of the way to communicate, which is giving me useful tools to become a sports coach.”

Step Into Employment is a free, six-week employability programme combining accessible physical activity and work readiness workshops.

To be eligible, you must be aged 19 or over, unemployed, or a low-income receiver and committed to progressing into employment.

Learners will access:

  • Support to achieve accredited qualifications in employability.
  • CV support and interview preparation.
  • Real life skills to make you more enjoyable.
  • Access to the Hull FC Elite Performance Centre.
  • Bursary payments available (subject to eligibility)
  • Free Hull FC tickets.

“The course is also great because you get really well looked after with some really good benefits,” Ryan said.

“When it comes to game days, we get offered tickets to watch Hull FC play. Sometimes, when we are doing training with the Hull FC Sports College group at the University of Hull, you might catch a glimpse of the first-team squad and it’s always nice to say hi to the players.

“I’ve made some great friends through the course and it feels great to feel part of a team.”
