Head Of Education Discusses Sports College Opportunities

Hullfcfoundation.co.uk caught up with Hull FC’s Head of Education, Jack Lazenby, to discuss opportunities at the Sports College ahead of the 2024/25 academic year.

With an impressive strike rate of 97% of all students across the Hull FC Sports College’s various courses achieving their target grade or above, students are giving their career prospects the best possible opportunities.

Those courses include NCFE Level 2 & 3 courses in Sport & Physical Activity, with students interested in exploring a number of avenues within the sporting industry.

Prospective students sometimes think that attending the Hull FC Sports College is merely for Rugby League athletes – but this is not the case.

“With a clear link to Hull FC as a club, being a student at the Sports College enables you to have access to people within roles they aspire to take up,” the Head of Education told hullfcfoundation.co.uk.

“Whether a student has aspirations to follow in the footsteps of somebody like former Sports College student Davy Litten and become a professional Rugby League player, or follow a different avenue such as coaching, conditioning or physiotherapy, we cater for a whole host of different needs.

“With our connection to the club, this allows work experience throughout the year across different disciplines within sport, including the opportunity to be around a high performance team.

“We offer a number of different courses here at the Sports College, all of which cover a vast range of content based around the sports and fitness sector, ultimately setting students up for progression routes into university, employment or apprenticeships within sport, and the health and fitness sector.

“It is an unrivalled programme, combining coaching, development, and education to give young players and students the very best opportunity to progress into professional sport – in both playing and off-field roles.”

Working with high profile education providers, SCL, who also partner the likes of West Ham, Leeds United and Yorkshire County Cricket, Hull FC’s education delivery is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Students also receive a host of benefits from Hull FC, including free training attire, discounts in the club stores, complimentary tickets to home games, and access to free travel in the Hull area.
