Hull FC Community Foundation Awarded Macmillan Grant to Launch New ‘FC Against Cancer’ Programme

The Hull FC Community Foundation is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a major grant from Macmillan Cancer Support to deliver a new community initiative, FC Against Cancer. This programme has been created to support adults living with cancer in some of the most deprived areas of Kingston upon Hull, offering inclusive, accessible opportunities to improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and build meaningful connections.

FC Against Cancer represents an important development in the Foundation’s health and wellbeing work. Drawing on key learning from the 2025 Unite project, the new programme expands support to both men and women, introduces activities designed to appeal to younger adults, and places sessions in locations that are easier to access for underrepresented groups. The aim is to reduce the impact of deprivation‑related barriers that often intensify the challenges faced by people living with cancer, particularly around loneliness, confidence, and access to physical activity.

Thanks to Macmillan’s support, the Foundation will deliver weekly sessions that combine physical activity, peer‑to‑peer conversation, and wellbeing education. Sessions will take place around Hull and online.

The programme’s activity offer is designed to be flexible and responsive. While the core purpose is to provide a welcoming space for people to connect with others who share similar experiences, the sessions will also include a range of supplementary activities. These will include adapted physical activity such as walking sports and seated exercise, online movement activities, healthy lifestyle workshops delivered by Foundation staff, and mental health workshops working alongside local organisations. To further strengthen social connection, all participants and their families will receive complimentary tickets to Hull FC home fixtures.

The Hull FC Community Foundation is proud to be working with Macmillan to deliver this vital project, enabling people to get involved for support, connection, and community they deserve.

Jasmine Render – Head of Health and Wellbeing for Hull FC Community Foundation on the project: “Cancer affects not only the individual but also their family, friends, and colleagues. FC Against Cancer aims to support the whole person, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Through this project, we are fostering a sense of belonging, encouraging resilience, and creating new connections that go beyond just cancer treatment. It’s about helping everyone with a diagnosis live well while living with cancer, and we’re honoured to be part of that journey with them.”
