From Learner to Leader: Celebrating Shane’s Success

Shane began his learning journey with the Hull FC Foundation in 2023. When he first joined the Adult Skills Fund programme, he arrived with limited confidence but a strong desire to grow both personally and academically. Over the past year, he has shown exceptional commitment to his development, completing a range of qualifications including Level 1 and 2 Employability, Level 2 Sports Leaders, and Level 1 Health and Wellbeing.

Reflecting on his journey, Shane shared, “When I first joined, I didn’t believe I could achieve much. But every step I took helped me feel more confident. The support I’ve had has pushed me to keep going, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”

Following his success on the Adult Skills Fund programme, Shane progressed onto the Exploring Opportunities programme with HLC, where he quickly became a valued and well-liked learner. He consistently takes an active role in LDRL rugby sessions and has shown enthusiasm and reliability while supporting Hull FC Sports Coaches in schools and on match days.

Shane’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. He recently received a an award at the Hull FC Foundation Awards Event, recognising his commitment and positive impact he has with the sport. He is now preparing for the next exciting chapter in his journey as he begins to further his development with the Hull FC Foundation within a Sports Coaching area.

Tutor Abby Ombler-Truran has witnessed firsthand the progress Shane has made, saying, “Shane has shown outstanding determination and a willingness to challenge himself. His confidence has grown massively, and he has become a role model to others. We are incredibly proud of his achievements and thrilled to see him progressing into employment with the Foundation.”
