Hull FC Foundation is proud to share the successful launch of Believe, a powerful new early‑intervention project designed to support some of the region’s most vulnerable young people. With support and financial backing from the Charles Hayward Foundation, the programme is now fully funded and ready to be delivered over the next two years.
Believe focusses on a project involving looked-after young people aged between thirteen and seventeen who are beginning to show behaviours that increase their vulnerability to crime, violence, and child criminal exploitation. By stepping in early and offering structured, compassionate support, the project aims to strengthen emotional wellbeing, build resilience, and create safer, more positive pathways for each participant. Over the course of the project, Hull FC Foundation expects to provide meaningful, personalised support to more than thirty young people, helping them navigate challenges and move toward brighter futures.
A key part of the programme involves delivering outreach activities directly within environments familiar to the young people. Through the project period staff will work closely with schools, youth offending teams, and other local partner settings to engage potential beneficiaries within the project. Through accessible sport, the project will offer both workshop-based delivery, along with access to regular physical and sporting activities.
Securing this funding marks another important milestone for the Foundation and reinforces its commitment to protecting and empowering young people across the city. The support from the Charles Hayward Foundation enables the Foundation to deliver targeted activities, one‑to‑one mentoring, and tailored wellbeing interventions that meet the complex needs of those involved.
Reflecting on the confirmation of the project, Sam French, Head of Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for what Believe will achieve: “Securing the funding for Believe is another significant step forward for our Foundation. With the support of the Charles Hayward Foundation, we can deliver meaningful early‑intervention work that protects vulnerable young people and opens the door to safer, more positive futures.”
