Adult Skills Programme

Hull FC Community Foundation supports adult learners aged 19+ to enhance their employability skills by providing recognised vocational qualifications in Wellbeing, Nutrition, Retail, Volunteering and Leadership

A free and unique programme designed to support jobseekers across the Hull in finding work by raising skills and confidence while assisting learners throughout the application to work process.

Each session involves a range of classroom and practical activities delivered by highly qualified tutors. Learners will be given the opportunity to progress on to a range of Hull FC programmes, depending on your goals.

Delivered from the Hull FC facilities and the Foundation’s outreach sites across Hull, the programme has helped more than one in three learners find a job during or within six weeks of finishing the course with local businesses.

Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing

Do you have an interest in exercise, training or the fitness industry? Maybe you’re thinking about starting a brand-new career, and are looking for an effective way to widen your existing fitness knowledge? If so, then our Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing was made for you! Fully accredited by NCFE, it’s suitable for beginners without prior qualifications or training, and will help you develop the skills and confidence to work with clients to help them reach their full fitness potential.

This course breaks down the basics you need to know before starting out. First, you’ll explore the key frameworks and systems that make up the human body. Then, you’ll go on to study the role of a gym instructor in detail – you’ll learn how to support the health and wellbeing of your clients by working on tailored fitness plans, discover safe exercise plans for all ability levels, and find out how to conduct health screenings to make sure you’re offering your clients the very best advice. After you’ve completed this course, you can progress to our NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training to enhance your skills and knowledge.

On this NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing course, you will:

  • Gain insight into anatomy and physiology and how it relates to exercise and fitness
  • Develop your ability to plan and deliver safe and effective gym-based exercise programmes
  • Discover how to conduct consultations and promote the health benefits of physical activity
  • Gain the knowledge and practical skills required to work as a gym instructor
  • Acquire awareness of health and safety in an exercise and fitness environment
  • Find out how to communicate effectively and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme.

Level 1 Certificate in Wellbeing

What does this qualification cover?

Our Health and Wellbeing course offers learners a broad and practical introduction to key topics that impact everyday life and long-term health. Covering areas such as mental health awareness, alcohol and substance misuse, stress and stress management, and weight management (including both fitness and nutrition), the course provides valuable insight into how to support both personal wellbeing and that of others.

Whether you’re looking to improve your own lifestyle or take the first step toward a career in the fitness industry, health and social care, education, or mental health services, this qualification acts as a powerful foundation.

It’s ideal for anyone passionate about making a difference and supporting healthier communities.

Who is it suitable for?

  • 19+ (must have had 19th birthday before August 31st 2024)
  • Unemployed or self-employed (gross earning below £21,222)

Level 1 Award in Volunteering

Get involved with exciting local or community projects, make a difference and gain a recognised qualification at the same time!

Course Overview:

We ALL have something to give to our community and exploring volunteering roles can also give you something back.

This qualification course will guide you through an introduction to the benefits of volunteering, volunteering organisations and local opportunities. It will also help you to evaluate and match your skills to the requirements of specific volunteering roles, to understand the regulations and boundaries of being a volunteer and to take part in some exciting volunteering projects.

What will you learn?

There are 2 mandatory units on this qualification course.

Unit 1: Explore volunteering and the ways to become a volunteer
Unit 2: Personal standards and requirements for working in a volunteering role

These units will be explored in group discussions, tutor input and project work.

Level 2 Certificate in Retail Skills

This qualification aims to provide an introduction to the retail industry to those new to, or seeking employment in this area help learners develop an understanding of the different aspects of working in the retail sector.

Candidates must be 19 to undertake this qualification.

Training Days:

Two days per week, 10am – 3pm.

Level 2 in Improving Personal Exercise, Health and Nutrition

What does this qualification cover?
This qualification is designed for those who wish to learn how to improve their personal health and well-being.

The qualification enables learners to gain knowledge and understanding of the positive effects of exercise on long-term health and well-being and implementing an exercise plan with the appropriate nutritional requirements.

This qualification also aims to improve learners’ understanding of stress. Through the programme you will look at the causes of stress and the effects stress can have on health. Learners will also learn to recognise the signs and symptoms of stress and look at ways of preventing or reducing stress. Candidates must be 19 to undertake this qualification.

Start Date: Monday 18th November 2024

End Date: Friday 17th January 2025

Training Days: Twelve Week Programme, Four Days Per Week, 10am – 3pm.
