Families Learning Together

Families Learning Together

The Families Learning Together (FLT) programme empowers parents to develop new skills, achieve greater wellbeing, and engage in positive activities that give them a better chance of securing employment. It is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and is aimed at economically inactive or unemployed parents living in Hull. FLT activities have 3 strands including:

Learning with Children: Primary schools in Hull will be used as a base to deliver a 12-week family learning programme after-school, for unemployed parents. Topics will include life and career skills, mental health, wellbeing, digital literacy, and personal development. Part of the sessions will bring parents and children together for fun learning activities that promote family cohesion.

Learning with Peers: Parents from participating schools can progress into a ‘Community Hub’, delivered twice weekly from Hull FC Performance Centre. They will receive continued access to interpersonal and employability support e.g., developing CV’s, job application forms, interview techniques, with childcare in school holidays. Local employers will facilitate sector-specific training and work placement opportunities.

Learning in the Community: Beneficiaries will be supported to volunteer within partners’ provision or deliver their own community project. Volunteering activities will be recorded in a bespoke journal to evidence broader employability skills which can be used to demonstrate experience and skills within a job interview.
